EARLY
ABORTION
Early abortion procedures involve dilating or
widening the cervix (the opening of the uterus) and evacuating the contents
of the uterus by means of vacuum aspiration.
The procedure past 12 weeks may involve the insertion of laminaria (a cervical
dilator).
The "weeks gestation" is determined by ultrasound examination.
Pregnancy is dated from the date of the last menstrual period. It is known
that the time of conception is normally two weeks after the beginning of
the menstrual period. One week after conception (3 weeks by the LMP) the
pregnancy test becomes positive and the pregnancy can be safely terminated.
The abortion is performed under general (sleep) or local anesthesia as an
available option.
We give individual and private care.
The average length of time a patient spends in our facility is 2 to 3 hours.
We achieve this short stay by scheduling individual appointments throughout
the day.
FETAL ANOMALY
Sadly, there are times when a Private Physician must inform a patient who
is pregnant and happily looking forward to having a child that there is
a fetal abnormality. This special group of women find themselves facing
a difficult decision based on medical tests and facts.
We believe that because of our sensitivity to the issues involved in pregnancy
termination, we are equipped to manage and care for these patients very
well. Patients are cared for according to the referring physician's recommendations.
We have the expertise, time and attention to provide competent, dignified,
and confidential care to all our patients.
Our staff is specially trained in issues of women's health, has extensive
experience and sensitivity to help minimize the emotional and physical concerns
of patients in this type of situation.
We cooperate with the patient's choice of laboratories for any special testing
purposes.
Both our Physician and our staff are available 24 hours a day to speak to
referring physicians and their patients regarding this unique situation.
